Alan Baker has dedicated 45 years to studying unique and often obscure martial arts. As a master-level educator, he has a rare ability to simplify complex concepts and make them teachable. This blend of experience and clarity has made him a sought-after instructor in both the martial arts and defensive tactics communities. After years of requests from students and instructors worldwide, Sifu Alan created the Legacy Academy to make these specialized systems accessible to everyone. In most cases, training in these arts would require traveling across the world to learn from high-level instructors. The Legacy Academy changes that by offering an online archive of detailed lessons and the annual Legacy Academy Summit, where practitioners can train multiple arts in one event each year.
Credit Where Credit Is Due
At its heart, the Legacy Academy was built to honor and respect the teachers who have guided Sifu Alan throughout his journey, preserving their knowledge and passing it forward to the next generation of martial artists.
Have You Experienced This Before?

You live in an area without access to specialized or less common martial arts, but you’re still eager to train and grow your skills.

You struggle to find a teacher who understands your limited training options and can provide innovative methods to help you progress.

It’s challenging to find an instructor who truly understands your goals and tailors the training to suit your needs.

Your current training resources fall short of your expectations, and you’re seeking advanced knowledge to enhance your skills and understanding.

You’re searching for an instructor who isn’t confined to a single system and has the knowledge and skill to provide insights from multiple disciplines.

You recognize the ever-changing world around you and understand the importance of practical, effective solutions.
The Challenge Facing Today’s Modern Martial Artist
It’s frustrating trying to find legitimate, in-depth martial arts instruction today. Most schools only scratch the surface. They focus on one system or a commercialized version of what used to be real. For those of us who crave deeper knowledge, who want to understand how the arts connect, evolve, and truly work in real-world situations, the options are almost nonexistent.

What Our Students Are Saying

Meet Your Guide: Sifu/Guro Alan Baker
For more than four decades, Sifu Alan Baker has lived the martial path. A full-time instructor since 1990, he has trained under some of the most respected masters in the world, Dan Inosanto, Francis Fong, Erik Paulson, Pedro Sauer, Ajarn Chai Sirisute, and many others, and holds advanced rank or instructor certification in more than twenty-five systems.
Alan’s lifelong study across arts such as Jiu-Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Kali, Silat, Wing Chun, and Combat Submission Wrestling has shaped a unique approach that blends tradition, functionality, and modern relevance. His career has taken him from teaching civilians and martial arts schools to designing defensive-tactics programs for law enforcement, protection teams, and Fortune 500 security groups globally.
Legacy Academy was created to share that depth of experience with dedicated students who want authentic knowledge, not marketing. Inside the archive, Alan opens the doors to systems rarely taught together and provides the structure to study them with purpose. Each year, members gather at the Legacy Summit to train side by side, compare notes, and bring those lessons to life.
Alan’s mission is simple: to honor the teachers who came before, preserve what matters, and pass it forward to the next generation of serious practitioners.

The Difference Between Movement and Progress
Without a structured path, years can pass while your training circles the same patterns. Techniques blur together, and progress stalls. You stay busy, but not better. Most people never move beyond surface-level training. They collect drills, chase rank, and lose sight of why they started in the first place. Without a guide or a tribe, the spark fades, and the art that once inspired you becomes routine. The deeper understanding of how the arts connect and function in real life remains out of reach, and so does your full potential.
“I built Legacy Academy to honor my teachers and keep authentic martial knowledge alive and accessible to more people. Whether you train online or meet us at the Summit, you’re part of something greater: a team and lineage.”
– Sifu Alan Baker

FAQs
Is the academy a month-to-month payment?
Yes, you can cancel anytime through your account profile, unless you are on the annual membership.
Do the Legacy Academies get regular updates?
Yes. Alan and his team dedicate January and February each year to recording new content for the academies, and we continue filming additional material throughout the year. We also capture footage from his camps, seminars, and workshops, and add those sessions into the archive. The annual Legacy Summit is recorded as well and included in the Academy library.
Is there a way to ask questions as a Legacy Academy Student?
Yes, there are options inside the Academy to ask questions and get your answers. You can also reach out to the staff for answers to your questions. We will often address your questions by recording additional content and adding it to the online platform.
How is Legacy Academy different from YouTube or random online instruction?
Legacy Academy is not a collection of random techniques. It’s a structured training platform built around curriculum, progressions, and principles that connect the dots. YouTube is great for inspiration, but most of what’s out there is scattered, out of sequence, and missing the “why” that makes the technique work.
Inside Legacy Academy, the material is organized so you can actually build skill over time, starting with fundamentals and moving into deeper layers of mechanics, timing, and strategy. You’re not just learning moves, you’re learning a system of training and a way to understand position, movement, and problem-solving. On top of that, the Academy continues to grow with new recordings from dedicated filming blocks, plus footage captured at live camps, seminars, and workshops, so the platform stays active and evolving rather than stale.
What’s included in the membership?
Your membership gives you access to the online training archive, including detailed lessons, complete system breakdowns, training drills, and philosophy sessions personally taught by Sifu Alan Baker. This is not a random collection of clips. It’s an organized library built to help you study with purpose, improve your mechanics, and understand the why behind what you’re training.
You’ll also get access to the private community group, where members share progress, ask questions, and stay connected to the larger mission. As a member, you’ll receive exclusive invitations and early access opportunities for live training events, including the annual Legacy Summit, where the online material comes to life through hands-on coaching, feedback, and time in the room with the team.
Most of all, you’re joining a student community that spans multiple systems and topics taught by Sifu Alan and his staff. That means you’re not just signing up for videos, you’re stepping into an environment built around long-term development, shared standards, and the kind of training culture that makes people better over time.
Do I need a training partner?
Not always, but it depends on what you’re studying and how far you want to take it.
You can absolutely train on your own and make real progress in many areas, especially in things like fundamentals, footwork, solo drills, conditioning, mobility, breath work, and skill development that is based on mechanics and repetition. Some systems also lend themselves well to solo training. Filipino Kali is a great example because it’s weapon-based, so you can build coordination, timing, angles, and striking mechanics with sticks and blades through solo patterns and drills.
That said, there are systems and skill sets where a training partner becomes essential, especially when the art is built around sensitivity, timing, and feedback. Wing Chun is a good example. At some point, you need contact, pressure, and live reaction to develop the attributes that make the system work. The same is true for grappling. You can drill movements and concepts solo, but you will progress faster once you’re training with a partner.
A lot of our students solve this by starting a small training group in their area. Even one or two consistent partners can make a big difference. And if you want hands-on coaching, another option is private training with our staff if you’re willing to travel. There are many ways to train, and we’ll help you choose the best path based on your situation and what you’re focused on.
Do Legacy Academy students get discounts to the Legacy Summit?
Yes. Active Legacy Academy students receive special discounts to the in-person training event, The Legacy Summit.
We built the Summit for a straightforward reason: we want you in the room. Proximity matters. Training live with Alan and the team, feeling the timing, pressure, and coaching in real time, and getting direct feedback accelerates your development in a way that online study alone cannot match. The Legacy Summit is where the material comes alive, and the student discount is our way of making it easier for committed Academy members to show up, train hard, and level up. Contact our team for Discounts!
Is there a way to achieve rank?
Earning rank through Legacy Academy is possible, but it is not an online process. We do not offer online testing or promotions. The video archive supports your training, but rank requires in-person training, evaluation, and demonstration of skill.
Requirements vary by system, target rank, and your background. After you express interest, we’ll outline a path that may include a pre-evaluation, a training plan tied to our curriculum, minimum practice hours, and a recommendation from a certified instructor. You may also be asked to attend specific seminars, camps, or coach days, keep a training log or short video journal.
You will need hands-on work with a certified Legacy Academy instructor. Some prep can happen over Zoom, but before any test, you must train and be reviewed in person. We call this the principle of proximity. Real skill needs authentic coaching. Testing windows are typically hosted at our academy in Woodstock, GA, at the Legacy Summit, or during scheduled regional visits or team teaching tours.
Not everyone in the Legacy community is pursuing rank, and that is fine. For those who are, we want this to be clear and transparent. Advancement takes consistent work, honest feedback, and time on the mat with a qualified coach. If you bring the effort, we will bring the structure, coaching, and accountability.
Do I need any experience to join Legacy Academy?
Do I need any experience to join Legacy Academy?
No. You don’t need prior experience to start. Legacy Academy is structured so beginners can build a strong foundation step-by-step, while experienced students and coaches can go deeper into details, mechanics, and higher-level training concepts. If you’re brand new, you’ll have a clear starting point and progression. If you’ve been training for years, you’ll find plenty of material to sharpen your skills, tighten your fundamentals, and expand your understanding.
Is this for students only, or is it also for instructors and coaches?
It’s for both. Legacy Academy is built for students who want to train and improve, and it’s also a powerful resource for instructors and coaches. In fact, many coaches join specifically because Alan’s approach is different than what they’ve seen in single-system instruction.
Sifu Alan’s vast background across multiple martial arts gives him a unique lens on mechanics, timing, and problem-solving. That breadth shows up in how he teaches: not just techniques, but how the human machine works, why positions succeed or fail, and how to build training that holds up under pressure. Students get clear progressions and fundamentals. Coaches get a deeper framework they can study, refine, and bring back to their own people.
Are live events required, or is the Academy valuable by itself?
Live events are not required. The Academy is designed to be a complete training resource on its own, with structured lessons, drills, system breakdowns, and philosophy so you can make real progress through consistent study and practice.
That said, live events are a powerful accelerator. In-person training lets you feel timing, pressure, and details that are hard to fully capture on video, and you get direct coaching and feedback in real time. If you can make it to events like the Legacy Summit, we highly recommend it, but you can absolutely benefit from the Academy even if you never attend an in-person event.
